The Civil Engineering Development Department (CEDD) needed an engaging way for visitors to their new multimedia space in Hung Sui Kiu to discover potential career paths within the department. Traditional career information tends to be dry and text-heavy, failing to engage visitors meaningfully. The kiosk needed to work seamlessly for diverse audiences across all ages and tech literacy levels, delivering quick yet impactful engagement without staff supervision.
As the UX/UI designer and creative, I created a completely self-explanatory interface with playful, approachable designs aligned with CEDD's new visual identity. The solution transformed a standard questionnaire into a memorable, shareable experience centered on collectible cards, ensuring high completion rates and independent user navigation. Visitors answer a brief questionnaire and receive a personalized AI-generated photo featuring them in their potential CEDD role alongside the department’s lion mascot - printed as a collectible card they can take home.

The challenge was creating an experience that appeals to all ages and backgrounds while adhering to CEDD’s new branding requirements and maintaining accessibility for public use. Through competitive analysis of interactive kiosks and audience research, I developed three core UI solutions. First, a timebar progress indicator significantly reduced abandonment by providing clear time expectations. Second, I gamified the experience through intuitive touch navigation and playful CEDD Lions animations during AI processing, transforming wait time into brand engagement. Third, the collectible card underwent three iterations to optimize the AI-generated photo, CEDD branding integration, and printer output, creating a shareable takeaway that extended user engagement beyond the kiosk.
As a designer for both the card and UI of kiosk, I wanted to ensure the whole experience is coherent and branded. The templates of the card design I’ve utilised the brand’s core colors and motifs to develop a series of templates. I’ve optimised the layout so it works both on the UI display and card. I’ve also provided input on the image generation art direction to ensure the generated imagery works well with the layout.
Animated Mascot loading screens are created for a more engaging appearance when buffering loading and printing. I’ve used this opportunity to further educate people on the different types of career options using a card flip animation and short copy when loading back to home screen. I’ve also added a game play explainer initially to introduce the meaning behind the game.
